Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
We meditate on Lord Vishnu, who is clad in white, Who is all-pervading, bright as the moon, with four arms, Whose face is serene and blissful, For the removal of all obstacles.
Verse 2
On this auspicious day, endowed with such qualities, for the well-being, stability, victory, longevity, health, and prosperity of our family, for the attainment of the four goals of human life (Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha), for the fulfillment of desired wishes, and for good progeny and auspicious results, I shall perform the Varalakshmi Puja annually, as prescribed in the Bhavishyottara Purana, with sixteen forms of worship (Shodashopachara), to the best of my ability, for the pleasure of Varalakshmi. As a part of this, I shall perform Kalasha Puja. Having worshipped the Kalasha with sandalwood paste, flowers, and unbroken rice, I place my hand over the Kalasha.
Verse 3
At the mouth of the Kalasha resides Vishnu, At its neck, Rudra is present, At its base, Brahma is situated, In its middle, the divine mothers are remembered. In its belly reside all the oceans, And the seven-islanded Earth. Within it are the Rig Veda, Yajur Veda...
Verse 4
May all the Vedas, including Samaveda and Atharvaveda, along with their auxiliary branches, reside in this water-filled pot. May they come for the worship of Lakshmi, bringing about the destruction of all misfortunes.
Verse 5
O Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Saraswati, Narmada, Sindhu, and Kaveri, may you all be present in this water.
Verse 6
O Goddess, seated on a lotus, holding a lotus, worshipped by all worlds, beloved of Narayana, be always pleased with me.
Verse 7
O Goddess, born from the ocean of milk, residing in a lotus, worshipped by gods and demons, please reside permanently in my home.
Verse 8
O auspicious one of all auspiciousness, residing in Vishnu's chest, I invoke you, O Goddess, be always pleased with me.
Verse 9
O Goddess, shining like ten thousand suns, adorned with glittering jewels, please be seated on this lion-throne, O worshipped by gods.
Verse 10
O Goddess, worshipped by gods, I offer you this pure water mixed with fragrance and flowers as Arghyam; please accept it.
Verse 11
O Goddess, worshipped by all gods, please accept this beautiful, fragrant water, originating from all holy rivers, as Paadhyam (water for washing feet).
Verse 12
O auspicious Goddess, please accept this Aachamanam (sipping water for inner purification) offered by me, brought in a golden pot and mixed with sandalwood and agarwood.
Verse 13
O Goddess residing in the lotus, please accept this Panchamrita bath, consisting of milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and honey.
Verse 14
O sister of the moon, please accept this pure water bath, which is the Ganga water brought by me, residing on Lord Shiva's head.
Verse 15
O beloved of Hari, whose feet are worshipped by gods, who loves silk garments, I offer you this pair of clothes; please accept them.
Verse 16
O Goddess worshipped by sages, please accept these divine armlets, bracelets, necklaces, anklets, waistbands, and other precious ornaments.
Verse 17
O auspicious Goddess, please accept this sacred thread (Upavita) made of refined gold and adorned with a string of pearls.
Verse 18
O Goddess, I offer you this fragrance mixed with camphor, agarwood, musk, and rochana; please accept it for your pleasure.
Verse 19
O daughter of the ocean, O fair Goddess, please accept these auspicious, unbroken rice grains mixed with turmeric and kumkum.
