Meaning & Translation
Verse 1
With the dust of the lotus feet of my Guru, I clean the mirror of my mind. I then narrate the pure glory of Lord Rama (Raghubar), which bestows the four fruits (Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha).
Verse 2
Knowing myself to be devoid of intelligence, I remember you, O Son of Vayu (Hanuman). Grant me strength, wisdom, and knowledge, and remove all my afflictions and impurities.
Verse 3
Hail Hanuman, ocean of wisdom and virtues. Hail Vanara chief, who enlightens the three worlds.
Verse 4
You are the messenger of Rama, the abode of immeasurable strength. You are known as Anjani's son and the son of the Wind God.
Verse 5
Great hero, valiant one, with a body like Vajra (thunderbolt). You are the remover of evil intellect and companion of good sense.
Verse 6
Of golden complexion, adorned with beautiful garments. With earrings in your ears and curly hair.
Verse 7
In your hands, a thunderbolt (Vajra) and a banner shine. A sacred thread (Janeu) made of Munja grass adorns your shoulder.
Verse 8
An incarnation of Lord Shiva, son of Kesari. Your valor and glory are revered by the entire world.
Verse 9
You are learned, virtuous, and extremely clever. You are always eager to accomplish Lord Rama's tasks.
Verse 10
You delight in listening to the Lord's deeds. Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita reside in your heart.
Verse 11
Assuming a tiny form, you appeared before Sita. Assuming a terrifying form, you burnt Lanka.
Verse 12
Assuming a colossal form, you destroyed the demons. Thus, you accomplished Lord Rama's mission.
Verse 13
You brought the Sanjeevani herb and revived Lakshmana. Lord Rama (Raghuveer) embraced you joyfully.
Verse 14
Lord Rama (Raghupati) praised you greatly, saying, 'You are as dear to me as my brother Bharata'.
Verse 15
Even the thousand-mouthed Sheshnaga sings your glories. Saying this, Lord Rama embraced you.
Verse 16
Sages like Sanaka and Brahma, great hermits, Narada, Saraswati, and Sheshnaga (the king of serpents).
Verse 17
Yama (god of death), Kubera (god of wealth), and the guardians of the directions, where are they? How can poets and scholars describe your glory?
Verse 18
You rendered a great service to Sugriva. You united him with Rama and helped him regain his kingdom.
Verse 19
Vibhishana heeded your counsel. He became the king of Lanka, as the whole world knows.
Verse 20
The Sun, located thousands of Yojanas away, you swallowed it, thinking it a sweet fruit.
Verse 21
With the Lord's ring in your mouth, you crossed the ocean. There is no wonder in this.
Verse 22
All the difficult tasks in the world become easy through your grace.
Verse 23
You are the guardian at Rama's door. No one can enter without your permission.
Verse 24
All joys are found by taking refuge in you. When you are the protector, there is nothing to fear.
Verse 25
You alone can control your splendor. All three worlds tremble at your roar.
Verse 26
Ghosts and evil spirits dare not come near. When the name of Mahavir (Hanuman) is uttered.
Verse 27
All diseases vanish and all pain disappears. By continuously chanting the name of brave Hanuman.
Verse 28
Hanuman frees from crisis. Anyone who meditates on Him with mind, action, and words.
Verse 29
Lord Rama is the supreme ascetic king. You accomplished all of His tasks.
Verse 30
Whoever brings any other desires to you. That person attains abundant fruits in life.
Verse 31
Your glory extends through all four ages. Your fame illuminates the entire world.
Verse 32
You are the protector of saints and sages. Destroyer of demons, dear to Rama.
Verse 33
You are the bestower of eight Siddhis (supernatural powers) and nine Nidhis (treasures). Mother Janaki (Sita) granted you this boon.
Verse 34
You hold the essence of Rama's devotion. You always remain the servant of Lord Rama.
Verse 35
Through devotion to you, one attains Rama. And forgets the sorrows of many lifetimes.
Verse 36
At the end of life, one goes to Rama's abode. Where one is born as a devotee of Hari (God).
Verse 37
One need not invoke any other deity. Serving Hanuman ensures all joys.
Verse 38
All troubles are cut short, and all pain is removed. For those who remember the mighty Hanuman.
Verse 39
Hail, Hail, Hail, Lord Hanuman! Bestow your grace upon me like a divine Guru.
Verse 40
Whoever recites this a hundred times. Is freed from bondage and attains great joy.
Verse 41
Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa. Attains success, Lord Shiva (Gaurisa) being the witness.
Verse 42
Tulsidas is always a servant of Hari. O Lord, please make my heart your abode.
Verse 43
O Son of the Wind God, remover of troubles, embodiment of auspiciousness. Reside in my heart along with Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita, O King of Gods.
