Om, now begins the Devi Kavacham (Armor of the Goddess).

Om, Salutations to Chandika!

Markandeya said:
Verse 4
O Grandfather (Brahma), please tell me that supreme secret which protects all people in the world, and which has not been revealed to anyone before.
Verse 5
Brahma said:
Verse 6
O Brahmana, there is a most secret and sacred armor of the Goddess, beneficial to all beings. Listen to it, O great sage!
Verse 7
First is Shailaputri, second is Brahmacharini, third is Chandraghanta, and fourth is Kushmanda.
Verse 8
Fifth is Skandamata, sixth is Katyayani, seventh is Kalaratri, and eighth is Mahagauri.
Verse 9
Ninth is Siddhidatri; these nine Durgas are thus glorified. These names have been uttered by the great Brahma himself.
Verse 10
One who is being consumed by fire, or surrounded by enemies in battle, or in a difficult, inaccessible place, or afflicted by fear, takes refuge in Her.
Verse 11
No misfortune befalls them in the crisis of battle. I do not see any calamity, sorrow, pain, or fear for them.
Verse 12
For those who remember Her daily with devotion, the auspicious of all auspicious, their prosperity increases with wealth, grain, and good fortune.
Verse 13
O Devi, You are easily attained by devotees, the doer of all deeds. In Kali Yuga, You are the wish-fulfilling tree, granting all desires.

Chamunda rides on a corpse, Varahi on a buffalo, Aindri on an elephant, Vaishnavi on Garuda.
Verse 15
Maheshwari rides on a bull, Kaumari on a peacock. Lakshmi, the Goddess, is seated on a lotus, holding a lotus in her hand, dear to Hari (Vishnu).

The Goddess Ishwari, of white form, rides a white vehicle. Brahmi is seated on a swan, adorned with all ornaments.
Verse 17
These are the Mother Goddesses, endowed with all yogic powers, adorned with all jewels, and possessing all divine energies.
Verse 18
They hold various weapons, including tridents, and are adorned with various ornaments. By their mere sight, they destroy hell and all enemies.
Verse 19
Indrani protects from the East, Agni Devata from the Southeast. Varahi protects from the South, and Khadgadharini (sword-bearer) from the Southwest.
Verse 20
Varuni protects from the West, Mrigavahini (riding a deer) from the Northwest. Kauberi protects from the North, and Shuladharini (trident-bearer) from the Northeast.
Verse 21
Brahmi protects me from above, and Vaishnavi from below. Thus, Chamunda, who rides a corpse, protects all ten directions.
Verse 22
Chandika protects my head, Maheshwari my forehead. Chitranetra protects my eyes, and Dwaravasini my ears.
Verse 23
Sugandha protects my nose, and Archika my mouth. Saraswati protects my tongue, and Kaumarika my teeth.
Verse 24
Chandika protects my throat, and Mahabala my shoulders. Vishnu Maya protects my arms, and Lalita my heart.
Verse 25
Shulini protects my abdomen, and Kamini my navel. Guhyeshwari protects my secret parts, and Vinayaki my generative organ.

Bhagavati protects my waist, and Mahabala my thighs. Vindhyavasini protects my knees, and Bhairavi my shanks.
Verse 27
Padaraksha protects my feet, and Sarvamangala my entire body. My blood, flesh, fat, bones, marrow, and all other parts.

Parvati always protects me, and Maheshwari protects everything. She protects my life, fame, wealth, children, cattle, and all else.

May the Goddess always protect my vital breaths in all beings, at all times. Any place left unprotected by this Kavach,

May that entire area be protected by You, O Devi Jayanti, the destroyer of sins!

One should not take even a single step without it, if one desires good for oneself. Covered by this Kavach daily, wherever one goes,
