Om, Salutations to Chandika (Goddess Durga) ||

Markandeya said ||
Verse 3
O Grandfather (Brahma), please tell me that most secret and supreme protective hymn in the world, which has not been revealed to anyone. ||1||
Verse 4
Brahma said ||
Verse 5
O Brahmin, there is a most secret and sacred Kavach (armor) of the Goddess, which is beneficial to all beings. O great sage, listen to it. ||2||
Verse 6
The first form is Shailaputri, the second is Brahmacharini, the third is Chandraghanta, and the fourth is Kushmanda. ||3||
Verse 7
The fifth is Skandamata, the sixth is Katyayani, the seventh is Kalaratri, and the eighth is Mahagauri. ||4||
Verse 8
The ninth is Siddhidatri. These nine forms of Durga are thus glorified. These names have been revealed by the great Brahma himself. ||5||
Verse 9
One who is being consumed by fire, or destroyed by enemies, or caught in a terrible, dreadful calamity, or afflicted by fear and seeks refuge, ||6||
Verse 10
For them, nothing inauspicious happens in the crisis of battle. I see no calamity, sorrow, pain, or fear for them. ||7||
Verse 11
Indeed, those who remember her with devotion certainly prosper. They obtain wealth, wives, and sons; there is no doubt about this. ||8||
Verse 12
For the protection of the body, the great Goddess has given this armor. In the royal court, in the cremation ground, in the forest, and in deep caves, ||9||
Verse 13
On the seashore, on riverbanks, at shrines, everywhere it protects. It protects those who seek refuge from ghosts, spirits, and ghouls. ||10||
Verse 14
O great sage, listen to this sacred armor of the Goddess. Chamunda rides on a corpse, Varahi on a buffalo. ||11||
Verse 15
Indrani rides on an elephant, Vaishnavi on Garuda. Maheshwari rides on a bull, Kaumari on a peacock. ||12||
Verse 16
Goddess Lakshmi sits on a lotus, holding a lotus in her hand, dear to Vishnu. The Goddess Ishwari, in white form, rides on a bull. ||13||
Verse 17
Brahmani rides on a swan, adorned with all ornaments. Adorned with all ornaments, endowed with all yogic powers. ||14||
Verse 18
Divine, made of various jewels, adorned with various jewels. The Goddess holds various weapons, adorned with various jewels. ||15||
Verse 19
All these Goddesses, for the accomplishment of the gods' tasks, are of various colors and forms, and hold various weapons. ||16||
Verse 20
The Goddesses are seen riding chariots, filled with wrath. They hold conch, discus, mace, spear, plough, and pestle as weapons. ||17||
Verse 21
Shield, javelin, axe, noose, a very fierce spear, trident, and bow. ||18||

With these weapons, the Goddess is engaged in protecting her devotees. Salutations to you, O Great Goddess, O Great Power, O Great Strength! ||19||

Protect me from all sides, O Goddess Durga, destroyer of adversities. May Chakreshi protect me in the East, and Mahishavahini in the Southeast. ||20||

May Mahadevi protect me in the South, and Khadgadharini in the Southwest. May Varuni protect me in the West, and Mrigavahini in the Northwest. ||21||
Verse 25
May Kaumari protect me in the North, and Shooladharini in the Northeast. May Brahmani protect me above, and Vaishnavi below. ||22||
Verse 26
Thus, may Chamunda, who rides on a corpse, protect me in all ten directions. May Chandika protect my head, and Vaishnavi my face. ||23||
Verse 27
May Kaumari protect my eyes, and Chakreshwari my ears. May Sugandha protect my nose, and Chandika my chin. ||24||
Verse 28
May Kaumari protect my lips and teeth, and Chandika my chin. May Chandika protect my tongue, and Chitraghantika my throat. ||25||

May Chandika protect my shoulders, and Chandika my arms. May Chandika protect my hands, and Chandika my feet. ||26||

May Chandika protect all my limbs, and Chandika protect my entire being. May Goddess Durga, the destroyer of adversities, protect me from all sides. ||27||

This most wonderful Kavach of the Goddess, whoever recites it daily with devotion, for them there is no destruction. ||28||
