Verse 1
Salutations to Chandika! || Markandeya spoke ||
Verse 2
Oh Grandfather (Brahma), tell me that most secret and supreme means of protection for all humans in the world, which has not been revealed to anyone before.
Verse 3
Brahma spoke || O Brahmin, there is a most secret and sacred Kavacha of the Goddess, beneficial to all beings. Listen to it, O great sage!
Verse 4
First is Shailaputri, second is Brahmacharini, third is Chandraghanta, and fourth is Kushmanda.
Verse 5
Fifth is Skandamata, and sixth is Katyayani, seventh is Kalaratri, and eighth is Mahagauri.
Verse 6
Ninth is Siddhidatri – these are the nine Durgas proclaimed. These names were revealed by the great Brahma himself.
Verse 7
One who is burning by fire, surrounded by enemies in battle, in a dangerous or difficult place, tormented by fear, seeking refuge (in Devi).
Verse 8
For them, no misfortune arises in a dangerous battle. I see no calamity for them, nor sorrow, suffering, or fear.

For those who remember Her daily with devotion, prosperity comes into being.

Chamunda sits on a corpse, Varahi on a buffalo, Aindri on an elephant, Vaishnavi on Garuda.

The Kavacha has ten periods of protection. Chandi, Kali, Mahalakshmi, Durga Devi, Saraswati.

Sridevi, Vajradharini, Maheshwari, and Brahmani, all forms of Shakti, may they grant me all protection.

Above, may Brahmi protect me; below, Vaishnavi. Thus, may Chamunda, who rides a corpse, protect me in all ten directions.

In wakefulness, may the Goddess protect me; in my abdomen, Maheshwari. May Chamunda always protect my head, and Kali my throat.

In my eyes, Mahateja (Great Splendor); in my ears, Shankhini. In my nose, Vajradharini; in my mouth, Durga and Saraswati.

In the waist region, Shvasikeshi; in the arms, four-armed Durga. In the hands, Chandadandini; in the feet, Kamarupini.

In all my limbs, Subhadra, the embodiment of all Shaktis. Protect, protect, O Great Maya, O Goddess Chandi, salutations to You.
