धौताङ्घ्रिपाणिरारम्य नारिकेलमृदालिप्तः। आचम्य विधिवत्कृत्वा नारायणं प्रणिपतेत्।

जङ्घे च तस्य पातालवासिने महाबलिः। ऊरू मे देवदेवेशः पातु पातालनायकः।

कटिं मे यज्ञपुष्पस्य पातु यज्ञेश्वरः स्वयम्। नाभिमं मे हृषीकेशः पातु पद्मनिभः।

हृदयं मे पातु सर्वं विश्वेश्वरः स्वयम्। ग्रीवां मे पातु गोविन्दः कण्ठं मे शेषशायिनः।

बाहु मे पातु भगवान् श्रीधरः श्रीधरायुधः। मुखं मे पातु देवेशः पातु मे केशवः स्वयम्।

ललाटं मे पातु लक्ष्मीः केशवः पातु मस्तकम्। कर्णावनंतशयनः पातु कर्णौ च वामनः।

चक्षुषी मे पातु दिव्यं नृसिंहः पातु मे दृशौ। नासां मे पातु वराहः पातु मे नासापुटौ हरिः।

ओष्ठौ मे पातु लक्ष्मीशो जिह्वां मे पातु माधवः। मुखं मे पातु नारायणः पातु मे वामकेशवः।

अन्तःपुरं मे पातु यक्षः पातु मे बहिः। वामं पार्श्वं मे पातु विष्णुर्दिग्भागान् हरिः स्वयम्।

प्रचरां दिशमं मे पातु चक्रवर्ती स्वयम्। वायव्यां मे पातु देवो गरुडध्वजः।

पूर्वस्यां मे पातु हरिः दक्षिणे गदाधरः। प्रतीच्यां पातु गोविन्दो नारिकेलवनवासिना।

उत्तरस्यां मे पातु सर्वं ऋषिकेशः स्वयम्। ऊर्ध्वं मे पातु यज्ञाङ्गं अधस्ताच्च जनार्दनः।

अन्तर्बहिश्च मे पातु केशवो वामनः स्वयम्। पार्श्वं मे पातु सर्वं वै सर्वतः पातु माधवः।

सर्वत्र पातु मां देवो नृसिंहः पातु मां गृहे। अरण्यारण्ये पातु मां श्रीधरः सर्वदा मम।

अथवा ये च भूतानि चरन्ति च दिवा निशम्। तेषां सर्वाणि भूतानि सद्यः प्रणश्यन्ति।

दिशं विदिशं मे पातु धर्मराजः स्वयम्। अग्निकोणे तु पातु मां वायुकोणे च माधवः।

नैरृत्ये च स्वयम् पातु नैर्ऋतः शेषशायिना। ईशान्यां पातु मां देवो हरिरिन्द्रात्मको विभुः।

अस्त्राणि मे पातु चक्रं गदा शङ्खः शर्ङ्गकः। खड्गं मे पातु सर्वत्र पातु मे खेटकम्।

महायोगेश्वरं वन्दे यं ध्यायन्ति मुनीश्वराः। तेजोमयः स भगवान् वासुदेवो हि केशवः।

महाभयं विनाश्यति नरसिंहस्य दर्शनात्। येन संसृतिः सद्यः प्रणश्यति भयावहा।

प्रह्लादवचसा यः सद्यः प्रह्लादितः पुरा। तं प्रपद्येऽहं देवेशं लक्ष्मीकान्तं जनार्दनम्।

इति ते कथितं राजन् नारिकेलवनवासिना। सर्वभूतात्मना देवो रक्षयेत् त्वां सदा हरिः।

अस्त्रं नारिकेलवनवासिना दत्तं प्रपद्येऽहम्। योऽर्चयेत् स तु देवेशं सर्वदुःखैः प्रमुच्यते।

अज्ञानतिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानिनामपि धीमताम्। यत्किञ्चित्सर्वदुःखैश्च दुःखैर्वा मोक्षमाप्नुयात्।

शृणुयाद्यः पठेद्वान्यः श्रावयेद्वा समाहितः। सोऽपि सद्यो विमुच्यते सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते।

ब्रह्महत्यादिकं घोरं ब्रह्मलोकेऽपि यैः कृतम्। तेषां पापानां नाशाय शृणुयाद्यः समाहितः।

इति श्रीनारदपुराणे नारिकेलवनवासिना प्रोक्तं नारायणकवचम् सम्पूर्णम्।

Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
Shuka said: O King! If you are facing any fear due to dangers from others, I will explain the Narayana-astra (shield of Narayana) to you, which when worn, dispels all fears.
Verse 2
One should take this armor and meditate in a solitary place where there is no fear.
Verse 3
There is no one who is as effulgent as Narayana. By Him, all beings are instantly annihilated.
Verse 4
First, one should cleanse hands and feet, then anoint the body with coconut earth (or sacred mud). After performing achamana (sipping water for purification) according to scriptural injunctions, one should bow down to Lord Narayana.

Om, I bow down to Lord Vasudeva. Om, I bow down to Lord Vasudeva. Om, I bow down to Lord Vasudeva.

Om, Salutations to Lord Vishnu. Om, Salutations to Lord Vishnu. Om, Salutations to Lord Vishnu.

I bow to You, O Hrishikesha (Lord of the senses), please be gracious unto me. May Lord Narayana protect my feet.
Verse 8
May the mighty one residing in Patala protect my shanks. May the Lord of Lords, the master of Patala, protect my thighs.
Verse 9
May the Lord of sacrifices Himself protect my waist, who is like the flower of sacrifice. May Hrishikesha, whose navel is like a lotus, protect my navel.
Verse 10
May the Lord of the universe Himself protect my entire heart. May Govinda protect my neck, and the one lying on Shesha protect my throat.
Verse 11
May Lord Shridhara, who holds the Sri Ayudha (Sudarsana Chakra), protect my arms. May the Lord of the gods protect my face, and may Keshava Himself protect me.
Verse 12
May Lakshmi protect my forehead, and Keshava protect my head. May Anantashayana (Vishnu reclining on Ananta) protect my ears, and Vamana protect my ears as well.
Verse 13
May the divine Narasimha protect my eyes and my sight. May Varaha protect my nose, and Hari protect my nostrils.
Verse 14
May the Lord of Lakshmi protect my lips, and Madhava protect my tongue. May Narayana protect my mouth, and Vamakesava protect me.
Verse 15
May Yaksha protect my inner chambers, and protect me externally. May Vishnu protect my left side, and Hari Himself protect all directions.
Verse 16
May Chakravartin (the universal monarch) Himself protect my front direction. May the deity bearing the Garuda flag protect me in the northwest direction.
Verse 17
May Hari protect me in the East, and Gadadhara (holder of the mace) in the South. May Govinda, residing in the coconut groves, protect me in the West.
Verse 18
May Hrishikesha Himself protect me entirely in the North. May my limbs for sacrifice be protected above, and Janardana below.
Verse 19
May Keshava and Vamana themselves protect me internally and externally. May Madhava protect my sides and protect me from all directions.
Verse 20
May the divine Narasimha protect me everywhere, and protect me in my home. May Shridhara always protect me in forests and wilderness.
Verse 21
And all those beings that roam day and night (ghosts, spirits), all of them are instantly destroyed.
Verse 22
May Dharmaraja Himself protect me in all primary and intermediate directions. May Madhava protect me in the southeast (Agni-kone) and northwest (Vayu-kone).
Verse 23
May Nairrita (god of the southwest) Himself protect me in the southwest with Sheshashayi (Vishnu). May the glorious Lord Hari, who is the self of Indra, protect me in the northeast.
Verse 24
May my weapons be protected: the Chakra (discus), Gada (mace), Shankha (conch), Sharnga (bow). May my sword protect me everywhere, and my shield protect me.
Verse 25
I worship the great Lord of Yogis, whom the chief of sages meditate upon. That effulgent Lord Vasudeva is indeed Keshava.
Verse 26
Great fear is destroyed by the mere sight of Narasimha. By Him, the fearsome cycle of rebirth is instantly annihilated.
Verse 27
He who was pleased instantly by the words of Prahlada in the past, I take refuge in that Lord of gods, the beloved of Lakshmi, Janardana.
Verse 28
Thus, O King, has been narrated to you by the one residing in the coconut groves (referring to the sage). May the Lord Hari, the indwelling soul of all beings, always protect you.

I take refuge in this weapon given by the one residing in the coconut groves. Whoever worships the Lord of gods is freed from all miseries.
Verse 30
Even for those blinded by the darkness of ignorance, and even for the wise and intelligent, by this, one can attain liberation from all miseries and sorrows.
Verse 31
Whoever hears this, reads it, or causes others to hear it with concentration, that person is immediately freed from all sins.
Verse 32
Even if one has committed heinous sins like Brahmahatya (killing a Brahmana), or similar grievous acts, even if committed in Brahmaloka; for the destruction of those sins, one should listen with concentration.
Verse 33
Thus ends the Narayana Kavacha, spoken by the one residing in the coconut grove, from the glorious Narada Purana.
