144
at the feet of the Lord, the direct path to liberation (Mukti) opens.
145
Devotees who perform Deepdaan (offering lamps) and observe a vigil (Jagran) throughout the night of Kamika Ekadashi, chanting the divine names of Hari, accumulate such immense merits that even Chitragupta himself is unable to record them all.
146
One who lights a lamp of ghee or sesame oil before the Lord ensures that their ancestors (Pitru) drink nectar in Swargaloka (heaven), and they themselves attain a radiance akin to the Surya Loka (the abode of the Sun God).
147
Bhagwan also stated that any person who fears sins, who wishes to be liberated from the ocean of worldly existence (Samsara Sagar), and who desires to avoid the sight of Yama (the Lord of Death) — must undoubtedly observe the Vrat of this Ekadashi.
148
For Kamika Ekadashi diminishes even the gravest sins, such as Brahmahathya (killing a Brahmin), and ultimately grants the devotee attainment of Vishnuloka (the abode of Bhagwan Vishnu).
149
The essence of Kamika Ekadashi is truly this: “What is most beloved to Bhagwan is that which is simple, pure, and fragrant with Tulasi.”
150
Even a small Tulasi Puja performed on this day outweighs grand Yajnas.
151
Therefore, observing a fast (Upvas) with devotion, performing Vishnu Puja, offering reverence to Tulasi (Tulasi-Archan), and lighting lamps (Deepdaan) – these constitute the very soul of this sacred Vrat.

Kunti's son, Dharmaraja Yudhishthira, said, 'O Lord, I have heard well the glory of Ashadha Shukla Devashayani Ekadashi and Chaturmasya. Now, please tell me the name of the Krishna Ekadashi of Shravan month.'
Verse 110
Lord Shri Krishna began to say, 'O Yudhishthira! The story of this Ekadashi was once told by Brahmaji himself to Devarshi Narada, and I will tell you the same. Narada asked Brahmaji, 'O Grandfather! I wish to hear the story of the Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha of Shravan month. What is its name? What is its method, and what is its glory? Please tell me.'
Verse 111
Hearing these words of Narada, Brahmaji said, 'O Narada! You have asked a very beautiful question for the welfare of the worlds. The Krishna Ekadashi of Shravan month is named Kamika. Merely by hearing about it, one attains the fruit of a Vajapeya Yajna.'
Verse 112
On this day, Lord Vishnu, who holds the conch, discus, and mace, is worshipped. His names are Shridhara, Hari, Vishnu, Madhava, Madhusudana. Listen to the fruit obtained by worshipping Him.
Verse 113
The fruit obtained from bathing in Ganga, Kashi, Naimisharanya, and Pushkar is attained by worshipping Lord Vishnu. The fruit that is not obtained even by bathing in Kurukshetra and Kashi during solar and lunar eclipses, by donating the earth with oceans and forests, or by bathing in the Godavari and Gandaki rivers when Jupiter is in Leo, is obtained by worshipping Lord Vishnu.
Verse 114
Those who worship the Lord in Shravan, by them, all deities, Gandharvas, and the Sun are worshipped. Therefore, people who fear sins must certainly observe the Kamika Ekadashi fast and worship Lord Vishnu.
Verse 115
For those entangled in the mud of sin and drowned in the ocean of worldly existence, observing this Ekadashi fast and worshipping Lord Vishnu is extremely essential. There is no greater means for the destruction of sins than this.
Verse 116
O Narada! The Lord Himself has said that by observing the Kamika fast, a soul does not attain a lower birth. Those who devoutly offer Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu on this Ekadashi remain free from all sins of this world.
Verse 117
Lord Vishnu is not as pleased by gems, pearls, jewels, and ornaments as He is by Tulsi leaves. The fruit of worshipping with Tulsi leaves is equal to the donation of four measures of silver and one measure of gold.
Verse 118
O Narada! I myself always bow to Tulsi, who is extremely dear to the Lord. By watering the Tulsi plant, all human sufferings are destroyed. Merely by seeing it, all sins are destroyed, and by touching it, a person becomes pure.
Verse 119
Even Chitragupta cannot describe the glory of offering lamps and keeping vigil on the night of Kamika Ekadashi. Those who light lamps in the Lord's temple on this Ekadashi night, their ancestors drink nectar in Swargaloka, and those who light a ghee or oil lamp, they go to Surya Loka, illuminated by a hundred crore lamps.
Verse 120
Brahmaji says, 'O Narada! Humans should diligently observe the fast of this Kamika Ekadashi, which destroys sins like Brahmahatya (killing a Brahmin) and Bhrunahatya (abortion). A person who listens to and reads the glory of Kamika Ekadashi with faith becomes free from all sins and goes to Vishnu Loka.'
Verse 121
The fruit obtained from bathing in Ganga, Kashi, Naimisharanya, and Pushkar is attained by worshipping Lord Vishnu. The fruit that is not obtained even by bathing in Kurukshetra and Kashi during solar and lunar eclipses, by donating the earth with oceans and forests, or by bathing in the Godavari and Gandaki rivers when Jupiter is in Leo, is obtained by worshipping Lord Vishnu.
Verse 122
Those who worship the Lord in Shravan, by them, all deities, Gandharvas, and the Sun are worshipped.
Verse 123
Humans who fear sins must definitely observe the Kamika Ekadashi fast and worship Lord Vishnu. For those trapped in the mud of sins and drowned in the ocean of worldly existence, observing this Ekadashi fast and worshipping Lord Vishnu is extremely essential. There is no greater means for the destruction of sins than this.
Verse 124
O Narada! The Lord Himself has said that by observing the Kamika fast, a soul does not attain a lower birth. Those who devoutly offer Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu on this Ekadashi day remain free from all sins of this world. Lord Vishnu is not as pleased by gems, pearls, jewels, and ornaments as He is by Tulsi leaves.
Verse 125
In a village, there lived a brave Kshatriya. One day, due to some reason, he got into a fight with a Brahmin, and the Brahmin died. The Kshatriya wished to perform the last rites for the Brahmin who died by his hands. However, the Pandits refused to include him in the rituals. The Brahmins informed him that he was guilty of 'Brahma Hatya' (killing a Brahmin). They told him to first atone and be freed from this sin, only then would they dine at his house.
Verse 126
Upon this, the Kshatriya asked what remedies existed to be freed from this sin. The Brahmins then advised him that by devoutly observing the fast and worshipping Lord Shridhar on the Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Shravan, and by feeding Brahmins and receiving their blessings with offerings, he would be liberated from this sin. Following the method prescribed by the Pandits, on the night of observing the fast, Lord Shridhar appeared to the Kshatriya and declared that he had been freed from the sin of 'Brahma Hatya'.
Verse 127
Cleanliness holds special importance on Kamika Ekadashi. The observer of the fast should bathe in the morning and then bathe the idol of Lord Vishnu with Panchamrit. Before bathing with Panchamrit, the idol should be bathed with pure Gangajal. Panchamrit includes milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar. After the bath, one should offer fragrance, unbroken rice (akshat), barley, and flowers to the Lord.
Verse 128
Aarti should be performed with incense, lamps, sandalwood, and other fragrant substances. Offer Naivedhya (food offering). In this, butter, mishri (sugar candy), and Tulsi leaves must be offered to Lord Shridhar, and finally, one should bow to the Lord, seeking forgiveness for any shortcomings. Chanting the Vishnu Sahasranama is also highly recommended.
Verse 129
Eating rice or any rice-based product is completely forbidden. On the second day of the fast, rice-based items should be offered to the Lord and then consumed. During the fast, consume salt-free fruits (phalahar). Phalahar should only be taken twice a day. Tulsi leaves must be used in phalahar. It is also appropriate to use Tulsi leaves in drinking water during the fast.
Verse 130
Date and Significance: The Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Shravan is called “Kamika Ekadashi”. This Ekadashi is considered to be the destroyer of sins, the strengthener of devotion to Vishnu, and the supremely auspicious day for serving Tulsi. On this day, worshipping Lord Vishnu in His Shankha-Chakra-Gada-Padma form, offering lamps (Deepdan), and keeping a night vigil yields results equivalent to a Vajapeya Yajna.
Verse 131
Lord Shri Krishna told Arjuna—O archer! This is that sacred Ekadashi whose greatness was narrated by Bhishma Pitamah to Devrishi Narada. Narada ji humbly asked—“O Pitamah! What is the name of the Ekadashi of Shravan Krishna, what is its method, and what is its fruit?” Then Bhishma Pitamah said—“O Narada! This Ekadashi of Shravan Krishna is known by the name ‘Kamika’. Merely listening to its fast and story is considered to bestow the fruit of a Vajapeya Yajna.”
Verse 132
On this day, one should devoutly worship Lord Shri Vishnu, who holds the conch, discus, and mace. Incense, lamps, food offerings, flowers, fruits, and especially Tulsi leaves should be offered. The devotee who observes this Ekadashi attains merit not just equal to bathing in the Ganga, bathing in the Gandaki during Vyatipat, or bathing in the holy sites of Kedarnath-Kurukshetra, but even greater than them.
Verse 133
Bhishma said—“O Narada! A person who worships Vishnu with devotion for even a single day in the month of Shravan receives more merit than by donating the entire Earth with its forests and gardens. And if the same worship is performed on Kamika Ekadashi, it burns away all accumulated sins.”
Verse 134
The sweetest aspect of this Ekadashi is that Lord Shri Hari is extremely pleased by worship performed with Tulsi leaves. Gems, gold, jewels,
Verse 135
Gems—the donation of all these on one side, and a single Tulasi leaf offered to the Lord with devotion on the other—even this one Tulasi leaf is more beloved to the Lord.
Verse 136
By merely beholding Tulasi Mata, sins are destroyed; by touching Her, the body becomes pure; by bathing with Her, the pains of Yama (death) are dispelled; and by offering Her at the Lord's feet, the path to direct liberation opens.
Verse 137
Devotees who perform deepdaan (lighting lamps) and keep an all-night vigil with Hari Naam (chanting Lord's name) on the night of Kamika Ekadashi, even Chitragupta himself is unable to record their immense merits.
Verse 138
One who lights a lamp of ghee or sesame oil before the Lord, their ancestors drink nectar in heaven, and they themselves attain a radiance similar to the Sun-world.
Verse 139
The Lord also said that a person who is afraid of sins, who wishes to be saved from the ocean of worldly existence, who wants to avoid the sight of Yama—they must certainly observe the fast of this Ekadashi.
Verse 140
Because Kamika Ekadashi diminishes even heinous sins like Brahmahatya (killing a Brahmin) and ultimately grants the devotee the attainment of Vishnu Lok.
Verse 141
The essence of Kamika Ekadashi is this: "The Lord is dear to that which is simple, pure, and fragrant with Tulasi."
Verse 142
Even a small Tulasi worship performed on this day outweighs great Yajnas (sacrifices).
Verse 143
Therefore, fasting with devotion, Vishnu worship, Tulasi adoration, and deepdaan (lighting lamps)—this is the soul of this Vrat.
Verse 144
By surrendering to the Lord, the immediate route to spiritual freedom and salvation (Mukti) becomes accessible.
Verse 145
Those who offer lamps (Deepdaan) and stay awake in devotion (Jagran) on Kamika Ekadashi night, chanting Lord Hari's names, earn boundless spiritual rewards that are beyond the reckoning of Chitragupta, the celestial record-keeper.
Verse 146
Lighting a lamp with ghee or sesame oil before the deity guarantees that one's ancestors (Pitru) will partake in divine nectar in heaven (Swargaloka), and the devotee will achieve a brilliance comparable to the Sun God's realm (Surya Loka).
Verse 147
The Lord declared that anyone who fears committing sins, seeks freedom from the cycle of worldly life (Samsara Sagar), and wishes to avoid encountering Yama, the Lord of Death, should certainly observe the fast (Vrat) of Kamika Ekadashi.
Verse 148
Kamika Ekadashi has the power to reduce even the most severe sins, like Brahmahathya (the sin of killing a Brahmin), and eventually bestows upon the devotee the ultimate reward of reaching Vishnuloka, the divine abode of Lord Vishnu.
Verse 149
The true core of Kamika Ekadashi lies in the understanding that Lord Vishnu cherishes simplicity, purity, and the sacred fragrance of Tulasi above all else.
Verse 150
On Kamika Ekadashi, even a modest worship of the Tulasi plant holds greater spiritual value than elaborate sacrificial rituals (Yajnas).
Verse 151
Thus, the true essence of this holy observance (Vrat) is found in devout fasting (Upvas), worshipping Lord Vishnu, revering the Tulasi plant (Tulasi-Archan), and offering lamps (Deepdaan).
